Down with Fear

We went to a place called slide rock for our family reunion this past week. At one point we all decided to try jumping off a twelve-foot cliff into the water below. I went first, which is a big deal because if I even think about high places my heart races and I want to throw up. It felt awesome to face my fear in this little way.
Then we climbed up to watch my sister jump and Hyrum said quietly but confidently, "I want to try that" I was surprised and happy for him. He jumped with Cole, after hesitating for a moment at the top he told Cole, "I'm a little scared but I still want to do it." Then Shailee decided to try jumping and went without hesitation. Cooper wanted to jump too but we told him he would have to wait. He is our maniac when it comes to risky things and I'm just grateful he has survived his first 16months.
Later in the week we went to a community center with a rock wall and we all did some climbing. About half way up everything inside me was screaming, "What do you think you are doing? Get down from this wall!" But I felt pretty good about making it half way up. Hyrum was determined and made it up about 13 feet. Cole showed us up taking the hardest paths and made it up several times. My sister made it to the top as well.
Then I climbed up 25feet to a pitch black water slide and after three attempts finally made myself go down.
Yeah for facing fears. I feel just a little stronger this weekend than I did last weekend. Yeah for my brave little family too!

Entering Life

Don't have the words but I just have to express something. Had the privilege of being present when my friend delivered her baby this week. Birth is incredible, and crazy, and awesome. It is confounding to me that as mothers we have a love strong enough to choose all that pain so we can give life to someone else. But we do. It is the greatest gift to love someone like that. It is beautiful how the pain is forgotten when we hold that little person and know the gift we have given and the gift we have been given all at once. It is powerful, it is breath taking, it is so deep...I wish I could be reminded more often. Thank you my friend for letting me be there. You were a warrior.
